Conference industry students paid a research visit to Church House Wesminster recently. The students from the University of West London spent the day at our conference venue as part of their final year assessment.

Over a hundred undergraduates from the University’s BA (Hons) Event Management course participated in the site visit on Tuesday February 23 as part of a module on Conference & Venue Management which is designed to build on the students’ skills and knowledge and apply them to the specific context of research in the conference industry.

Following their visit students will work in groups to produce a feasibility study, evaluating the current situation of the venue and giving their recommendations on how the venue could grow the conference business over a three to five year period.

One of the University’s graduates Jo-Anna Persson, who now works at Church House as an Events Coordinator, helped facilitate the students’ visit.

Liz Quick, Senior Lecturer in Event Management at the University of West London, commented: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Church House, which is an excellent venue to showcase for this project. Exercises such as this are extremely valuable and the combination of both practical and theoretical elements has proved a real success for the module, which has been reflected in positive comments and high marks students have achieved. To be able to work with venues such as Church House helps prepare students for their future roles in the industry and we are grateful to their staff for taking time to share their experience with the students.”

Robin Parker, our General Manager, comments: “We were delighted to work with the University of West London and their students on their final year assessment. It is a great way for them to learn about venues so they can increase their knowledge of the industry which will benefit them greatly when they take up their first roles in a working environment.”
