Sustainable venue, Church House Westminster,  launches new plant-based day delegate menus

In response to growing demand, Church House has designed an alternative day delegate rate for conferences and meetings that features only plant-based food and drinks, created with in-house caterer CH&CO.

Tea and coffee breaks are served with a selection of oat, almond and coconut milk along with vegan biscuits, vegan danish pastries, and fruit bowls.

A sample hot fork buffet features the following menu items:

  • Shepherd-less pie
  • Grilled polenta, roast Provencal vegetables, pepper coulis
  • Fragrant basmati rice
  • Slow-braised red cabbage and apple salad

Executive Chef, Anthony O’Donnell, commented: “When it comes to plant-based food, the idea is to identify foods that we should eat more frequently to help tackle environmental issues. By looking at how certain foods are grown, processed, transported, stored and even thrown away, we can switch the conversation to a positive: “This is what we should eat more of”, instead of making people feel guilty about the environmental implications of their diets.”.

Catering Manager, Magda Kujda, added: “For a while now we have seen tremendous change in customer tastes as considerations for animal welfare and the health of the planet become more paramount. Increasingly, in terms of dietary requirements, event organisers have to carefully consider a range of dietary lifestyles when deciding on menus for meetings and events. We are proud to offer event organisers good quality menus with lots of choices to help with this. The introduction of a completely plant-based day delegate rate is to encourage dietary changes by using food commonly available in the UK, which will not only improve the health of delegates but also lower greenhouse gas emissions.”.

The introduction of the vegan day delegate rate addresses Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero hunger. Church House Westminster is committed to operating in a sustainable way and holds a Silver award from Green Tourism in recognition of their efforts to lower the carbon footprint of the venue.
