Meet The Team – An Interview with Yusuf Miah Apprentice AV Technician

Therefore we would like to take this moment to introduce our “Meet the Team” series – where you can get to know the people behind the scenes, who are an integral part of creating the unforgettable experiences you know us for!
Yusuf joined our Audio Visual Team as an Apprentice AV technician in December 2022, and has quickly become a knowledgeable and well-liked team member.
We interviewed Yusuf about his time with us so far, and what he enjoys most about being an Apprentice AV Technician.
Tell us about your journey so far, and how you came to work at Church House?
I’ve always been interested in the audio-visual space – I love music and enjoy figuring out how things work – I’m currently studying Audio and Visual Production online at Middlesborough College – so I thought an Apprenticeship would give me valuable real-life experience in the craft…when I saw the role for an Apprentice AV Technician at Church House advertised, it was a ‘no-brainer’ that I would apply! As soon as I met the team at my interview, I knew Church House would be a place I would gain valuable work experience and knowledge – so I was really excited when I was asked to join the team.
What have you learnt in your time as an apprentice AV technician at Church House?
From my first day, the team took me under their wing, teaching me how to test audio and lighting equipment, and ensure everything goes without a hitch for our client’s events. I’ve also been involved in liaising with stage builders and the events team to fulfil client briefs. I’ve also had the chance to get involved in live events such as Chile Day 2022.
What aspects of your role do you enjoy the most?
I love that no two days are the same and that I’m learning from AV specialists with decades of experience. The whole Church House team has been very supportive of my learning, and I get a great sense of achievement from being a part of a successful event……I also love that I’m getting hands-on experience with the latest AV tech…..& working in the heart of Westminster doesn’t hurt either!
