Reverse Rett held their 8th annual fundraiser at Church House Westminster last week (Friday 3rd November) to continue the battle against Rett Syndrome.
The gala dinner organised by the small, parent-driven charity; Reverse Rett, has been held annually since 2010 with the Westminster venue being the chosen location for 2017. With an ambitious and potentially historic goal, the charity is working hard to make Rett the first neurological disorder for which there is a cure.
The disorder strikes little girls from as young as one year old, taking away their ability to walk, talk and use their hands whilst increasing their risk of sudden and unexplained death. There is currently no cure for Rett Syndrome, however hope remains with researchers showing the possibility that the single genetic cause can be corrected via gene therapy.
As a result, the UK medical research charity is aggressively working to raise the critical research funds needed to keep driving the science forward and continue to launch human clinical trials of gene therapy.
The gala dinner is their biggest fundraising opportunity each year, with funds raised primarily through sponsorship, ticket sales and donations, combined with auctions and a raffle held on the night. This year the event very successfully raised an amazing £94,619.75 with donations still coming in!
‘We are delighted to be able to hold this year’s Reverse Rett London Gala at such a beautiful venue right in the heart of London. We are grateful for the support of all at Church House who have gone out of their way to make things easier for our small team in planning thus event, ultimately enabling us to raise as much money as possible for the critical projects which we support.’
Robin Parker, General Manager at Church House, comments: “We were delighted to be chosen as the venue for this charity event and were excited to welcome Reverse Rett through the doors of Church House for the first time. It was fantastic to see so many people turn out for such a good cause.”
