Church House Westminster approaches its 3 year anniversary of becoming a London Living Wage employer as it continued to develop policies which attracted the best staff in the industry.
With the policy applying to all staff including full time, part time and individuals working for contracted partners supplying catering and cleaning services, employees have been able to reap the benefits of working for a London Living Wage employer.
Julio Patino is Head Porter and has worked at Church House Westminster for the past 10 years. He says receiving the London Living Wage has had a positive impact on his finances and staff retention at the venue.
He comments: “Being paid the London Living Wage has had a big impact on my financial situation and means I have more income for my household. The team here are really happy with the London Living Wage and it means they are more reliable, working to the best of their ability. Before the London Living Wage was implemented, I would’ve considered having to look for a new job as without it I would have needed to do other jobs and work at weekends. But being paid the higher level wage always make you think twice because of the difference it makes. I think other venues should consider offering it to their staff because it shows them that their hard work is being recognised, and having good wages means the team are focused and results in good staff retention.”
Robin Parker, General Manager at Church House Westminster, commented: “We are a venue that prides itself on the quality of service we provide. It is one of our strongest selling points and brings us a large amount of repeat and word of mouth business. When we became a London Living Wage venue our aim was to do everything we could to maintain the best staff so we could continue offering an award winning service. And over the last three years we’ve been able to achieve this. Our staff feel valued and are committed to working hard to uphold our reputation. Whilst I understand that for some businesses paying the London Living Wage might not be a viable option, it has been the right choice for us and everybody is reaping the benefits.”
Church House Westminster is one of London’s most versatile event venues. The AIM Gold accredited venue offers 19 flexible event spaces, which accommodate between 2 and 664 guests, and hosts a wide variety of events including meetings, conferences, awards ceremonies, gala dinners and receptions.
